Cancer Center Seminar Series
PurposeTo facilitate new initiatives in translational and clinical research in oncology, the Cancer Center has created a seminar series that will be held every Friday.FormatThe series will feature theme-based presentations each month, with at least one session offered by an outside expert in the field and another headed by a clinician/basic scientist duo from UVA. This latter session will be devoted to a discussion of the current clinical practices for the disease or type of treatment under consideration, strengths and weaknesses of the approaches, and new therapies on the horizon, as well as molecular actions of new drugs and their targets. The series will also feature invited speakers on various, non-theme-based subjects, Hem/Onc faculty recruits, and UVA faculty with expertise in selected topics.GoalsThe goals of the theme-based approach are to focus on a single organ site, type of cancer, or type of therapy, to explore the limits of our collective knowledge about these topics, and to devise new research projects or modify existing ones that will address some of the critical issues raised in the discussions.
