David B. Drake, M.D, F.A.C.S
Dr. Drake’s current research program includes studying the effects of lipoaspirate on the damaging effects of radiation to breast patients. Dr Drake and colleagues were recently awarded a UVA Cancer Center Women’s Four Miler grant to study if adding fat cells beneath the radiated breast tissue can alter and improve the quality of the skin treated with radiation.
Another clinical interest of Dr Drake’s is the use of acellular dermal matrix for breast reconstruction. Clinical investigations and an active protocol are underway to compare the patient’s response to the use of ADM in breast reconstruction. Other studies related to breast cancer utilize the prospective data repository that collects extensive information on patient demographics, patient personal and family history, tumor characteristics, breast imaging, pathology, multidisciplinary treatments, and follow-up statistics.
