Cancer Center Trainee Support RFA

Eligible Trainees: medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and postdocs

Funds are available to support trainees performing research with Cancer Center members. This support can be in the form of funds for salary, supplies, or travel. Travel funds are provided only if the recipient is presenting a talk or poster.  Support is for one year with the potential for renewal for a second year.

Applications should include the following:

  1. Scientific Abstract (no more than 250 words)
  2. "Lay description" of the research project (approximately 150-250 words)
  3. Research narrative (no more than five pages)
  4. Budget and justification (maximum of $25,000)
  5. Biosketches and Other Support information for both the trainee and the mentor

American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant

The National Research Program of the ACS funds the American Cancer Society Institutional Research Grant. This grant is limited to junior faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor and the investigator cannot have a national award. The purpose of this grant is to provide small pilot awards to help junior faculty begin a cancer pilot project. The awards have a cap of $30,000 and are limited to one year. Approximately 4-6 projects are funded each year. Timothy Bender, PhD, the Principal Investigator of the ACS IRG, and an interdisciplinary review committee conducts the review.

Cancer Center Technology Partnership Initiative (CCTPI)

This initiative is designed to support public-private research partnerships between the UVA Cancer Center and Virginia technology and biotechnology industries. Our goal is to improve the health of Virginia’s citizens and of Virginia’s economy through investment, job creation, and improved cancer care.

Specific goals include:

1. Development, clinical application, and commercialization of UVA Cancer Center discoveries; and/or

2. Synergistic research and development partnerships between the UVA Cancer Center and the private sector that build on UVA Cancer Center research expertise; and/or

3. Movement of new discoveries from the private sector into clinical trials at UVA.

This Initiative is designed to function at the interface between the UVA Cancer Center and the private sector, bi-directionally facilitating the movement of new discoveries from the University to the private sector, and from the private sector back to the UVA Cancer Center.

UVA Cancer Center Team Science Awards RFA

The UVA Cancer Center is pleased to announce a new initiative in Team Science that will support innovative basic, clinical, population, and translational cancer research. This initiative is intended to foster multi-disciplinary collaborations that will strengthen basic science, facilitate translation to the clinical, community, and/or commercial setting, develop initiatives in cancer prevention and control, and move us toward status as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. We anticipate making 3-4 awards of $150,000 - $200,000 for one year, renewable for a second year on a competitive basis, contingent on visible progress toward submission of a publication and application for external peer reviewed funding.
