Gynecological Care Team
The Gynecological Care Team at the University of Virginia offers comprehensive care to women with any type of cancer of the reproductive system. The Gynecological Oncology Team treats cervical, endometrial (uterine), ovarian, vaginal, and vulvar cancer as well as trophoblastic diseases. The team, which is made up of gynecologists, medical oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, nurses, and psychosocial and educational support, has taken a leadership position in developing new screening protocols for cervical cancer, as well as testing immunotherapies for ovarian cancer, and in other clinical trials of new therapies. This multidisciplinary team meets weekly to discuss treatment options including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of treatments to ensure the most effective treatment, individualized to the needs of each patient.
The Gynecological Oncology Team is part of the University of Virginia Cancer Center, which is a highly ranked National Cancer Institute designated Cancer Center.
