Clinical Research Nursing Services
|
Nursing services are integral to the success of the University of Virginia General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) in both the inpatient unit and outpatient areas. Our GCRC nurses have the reputation for providing the highest quality of nursing and technical expertise to carry out the multidisciplinary protocols that are currently active on the GCRC. The nursing staff provides technical support, clinical care, and acts as the primary contact between the principal investigator and the volunteer as well as other staff involved in the investigation. The research nurses develop a protocol reference manual for each approved clinical protocol. This primary manual is utilized as a standard reference on the GCRC unit, and includes volunteers studied and dates, research flow sheets, physician's orders, sample inventories, consent forms, etc. It details the specific standardized procedures required for the collection of all data related to that protocol. In addition, nursing personnel are responsible for supervising their own clinical laboratory that processes all specimens for the core laboratory assays.
