Leon Farhy, PhD
Bio of Leon

Leon Farhy, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism,
Department of Medicine, University of Virginia.
Dr. Farhy works in the field of diabetes and endocrinology and is
motivated by the belief that combining traditional experimental methods
with systems-level understanding and advanced mathematical
reconstruction provides a unique advantage in biomedical research. His
studies are therefore interdisciplinary, and bring together clinical
and laboratory work with mathematical analysis, simulations, and
modeling. He is the principal investigator of several NIH research
projects and clinical protocols which investigate the time-varying
relationships between different hormones and how they impact the
endocrine function and glucose metabolism. He studies the defects of
glucagon counterregulation in diabetes and is interested in identifying
strategies for repair of these defects to achieve better glycemic
control with reduced hypoglycemia risk. He lives in Charlottesville
with his family and enjoys music and quality sound reproduction. Good
food and wine is a must.
