Bio for Colleen
Colleen Karvetski, PhD
Research Associate
Dr. Karvetski pursued a BS in Mathematics at Denison University and an MS in Mathematical Science at Clemson University. Since arriving at UVA, her work has focused on various components involved in the process of translating mathematical tools and concepts into clinically relevant improvement in the treatment of type 1 diabetes insulin therapy management. Dr. Karvetski has had the opportunity to be part of control algorithm development aimed specifically at using probabilistic models of patient’s daily behavior to inform insulin delivery in an effort to improve glycemic control. Her dissertation research focused primarily on the development and implementation of safety algorithms for insulin pump therapy treatment aimed at addressing various hazard causes associated with insulin pump use, particularly hypoglycemia detection and prevention. Currently, as a postdoctoral research associate in the lab, Dr. Karvetski has taken on a role in the software and hardware implementation of devices and algorithms for clinical testing, and developing algorithms for improving the accuracy of glucose sensor signals. She looks forward to continuing to investigate the consideration for behavioral components in the design and implementation of technologies for type 1 diabetes insulin therapy management. In Dr. Karvetski’s spare time, she enjoys jogging around Charlottesville, following UVA men's basketball, and exploring local wineries.
