Form for embryo cryopreservation
If you transfer breeding mice to our animal room for embryo cryopreservation, we'll send you a CCM animal protocol and/or delivery request form. The males and females should be transferred to GTTF's animal room, but the per diem will be charged to your account. The males will be used as studs for breeding to females to generate embryos of the desired stages. Please transfer mice only to our protocol #, but keep them on your per diem fund code (CCM #). Please also indicate if the males should be euthanized or returned to you after we complete the project.
The donor females are usually wildtype for the allele of interest and can be ordered by GTTF on your account. In case the females are provided by labs, the required number of females would depend on not only the number of frozen embryos desired but also how well they respond to superovulation. The rule of thumb is that one female produces 5-10 freezable embryos. If requesting to freeze 300 embryos, at least 30 females need to be submitted in several batches. Quality control is assured by thawing and culturing a representative sample of the frozen embryos to assess their ability to develop in vitro.
Please click "Submit" button to send the request electronically to GTTF. Please also have PI sign a hard copy and bring it to Jordan 2223 (ext. 2-3990) to confirm the timeline of the service.
