For some users, scanning microscope slides is troublesome because of the effort of learning to use the instrument, relearning a task done only occasionally and possibly making multiple trips to load slides. The slide scanning service may be more cost effective for such people.

Most people find that 20x or 40X is adequate. 20X scans have smaller files sizes than higher magnifications. Oil immersion lens scan is rarely needed. Because of the steps needed, oil immersion lens is considerably slower and costs more.

Some slides use thicker than normal glass. If you know your slides use thick glass, it will aid scanning set up.
