These instruments are used for isolation of cell populations which are labelled with 50nm superparamagnetic particles that are conjugated to antibodies specific for a particular antigen on the cell surface. The user can either manually label the cells offline or have the AutoMACS Pro label them for you as part of the isolation protocol. There a variety of different protocols the user can choose depending on the density of the antigen, the frequency of the population, whether you wish to have a negative vs. a positive selection or wish to isolate your cells directly from whole blood.
