How To Apply

Application
Apply online. Fill out all the required fields, including the selection of the Molecular Medicine graduate program group [you may only apply to one Biomedical Sciences (BIMS) Program]. Choose Biomedical Sciences on the application as the "Department Applied To," and then choose Molecular Medicine as the "Specialization." Upon completion of the application, you'll receive an e-mail asking you to designate appropriate research foci, which will help us to understand your interests and to identify faculty members whose research matches your interests.

Deadline
If you're seeking full financial support (stipend, tuition and fees, and health insurance), you're encouraged to apply by January 15th . If you wish to apply after the January 15th deadline, then you must request an extension from the Molecular Medicine office at molmed@virginia.edu
Requirements
GRE. You're required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test and are encouraged to take a relevant GRE Subject Test. Please use Institution Code 5820 .
TOEFL. If English isn't your native language, then you're required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). You don't need to submit a TOEFL score if you've studied in the U.S. for two or more years.
Letters of Recommendation. You're encouraged to obtain letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your research experience and potential. Two letters of recommendation are required but additional letters are often submitted and are welcomed.
Additional Documents. You're encouraged to send reprints of co-authored publications or other relevant materials.
Interview Visit
If selected for an expense-paid interview/recruiting visit, you'll be contacted by the Director or Program Coordinator of Molecular Medicine. Your choice of research foci, plus your personal requests, will be used to coordinate interviews with MolMed faculty mentors.
Who Should Apply
The requirements for admission to our Biomedical Sciences PhD Programs are rigorous since we recruit only the very best students. These students will have the potential to go on to be leading scientists in academia, industry, and other areas. Requirements for application include completion of a BA at a reputable undergraduate institution. Although strong consideration is given to your grade point average and GRE scores, the most important criteria for admission are your passionate commitment for research and your aspiration for a professional career in conducting pioneering biomedical research.
