Students & Mentors: A Team Approach
Selecting a mentor is a key step in your success as UVA MSTP students. All first and second year medical students are required to complete at least 3 summer lab rotations before transitioning into a graduate program. These rotations are essential in helping find a mentor who is conducting research in a field that is interesting and challenging. The MSTP Directors take all the care and time necessary to assist you in finding the right lab. This often is a hot topic during the monthly lunch meetings. The Program Director and Associate Directors screen each of our 150 approved mentors very carefully.
- 150 rigorously screened and experienced mentors to choose from
- Cell Biology, Biomedical Engineering and Molecular Physiology and Biological Physics Departments ranked top ten in the nation.
- ~$200 million of grant funding in the School of Medicine each year.
