Instructor and Student Small Group Assignments (will be assigned following the first class meeting).

This course is designed as a combination of brief lectures and small group sessions, led by experienced members of the faculty in biological and medical sciences. Students are expected to be prepared for discussion of cases to be presented by the faculty and to bring their reading to bear upon the discussion.

There will be four 1.5 hour meetings, three 1.5 hour group sessions and the final meeting will be a panel discussion.

Syllabus

Registration:

  • Graduate students register for the course BIMS 710 through UREG

  • Post-doctoral students may register for the class through the Community Scholars Program in the School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (SCPS).  Go to the New Student Registration page and scroll down to "New Community Scholars - Step 3 Register."  Print the Community Scholar Class Registration Form.  The Instructor's signature of approval must also be obtained in order to enroll; to obtain the instructor's signature please bring your SCPS Permission to Enroll Form to the Graduate Programs Office, 1102 Jordan Hall.


    Payment options have changed.  Please read instructions carefully.


    Community Scholar tuition rates for Spring 2013:
    In-State:          $365.00 per credit hour

    Out-of-State:  $1,119.00 per credit hour

Small Groups:

  • Following "sign in" at session 1, students will be assigned to small groups. The members of each group, the name of the group leader, and the meeting location for each group will be posted to this site by 5PM January 18th.

RCR Retraining:
"Reflection on responsible conduct of research should recur throughout a scientist’s career: at the undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, predoctoral, postdoctoral, and faculty levels. . . .  Instruction must be undertaken at least once during each career stage, and at a frequency of no less than once every four years . . . To meet the above requirements, instruction in responsible conduct of research may take place, in appropriate circumstances, in a year when the trainee, fellow or career award recipient is not actually supported by an NIH grant." (Notice Number: NOT-OD-10-019).
