Basic Science Teaching Awards
Each year, the first and second year classes vote for a select number of lecturers to honor them for their teaching excellence in the basic medical sciences. This award tradition was resurrected in 2008 with the SMD Class of 2011 and is overseen by the Mullholland Society class leadership. Subsequently, the SMD Classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 elected award winners at the end of each of their two basic science years of medical school. Starting with the SMD Class of 2014, each class votes amongst all of the basic science professors at the conclusion of their entire basic sciences educational experience in adjustment to the new curriculum schedule. The award winners are traditionally announced during Transition Week between second and third year. The award certificates and informal class reception to honor the awardees has been graciously supported by the Medical Alumni Association every year.
