Building an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) at UVA

Keynote Speaker:  Steven J. Bernstein, MD, MPH
Dr. Bernstein is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs at the School of Medicine and a Research Scientist, Department of Health Management and Policy, School of Public Health, at the University of Michigan.  He also directs the University of Michigan Health System participation in the Physician Group Incentive Program sponsored by BCBS of Michigan and quality improvement efforts related to the CMS Pioneer ACO program.

Participants will learn how to:

  1. Describe the characteristics of an accountable care organization.
  2. Discuss the payment models and the shared savings programs available through Medicare.
  3. Discuss the essential ACO functions and their link to improved healthcare, reduced costs through improvement.
  4. Discuss strategies needed to effectively launch and implement an ACO.
