- Don Innes and Mark Mikkelsen held an open forum for the medical
student body on 2/8/00 from noon until 1:00 p.m. to discuss the current
curriculum revisions. All medical students were informed via e-mail of
the forum, unfortunately, only five attended. An article prepared by
Don Innes and Jerry Short on the curriculum for Academic Medicine will
be placed on the WEB to inform students of our progress and as soon as
the Strategic Plan for the Medical School is complete, links will be
made from the Curriculum WEB site to the education section of the
Strategic Plan.
- A tentative first year schedule compiled by Don Innes from both
retreat data and correspondence with involved course directors was
distributed to the Committee members for their input. There is an
average of about 28 hours of class time per week in the Fall and 24
hours per week in the Spring. Course directors will be asked to get
together with faculty who teach in corresponding courses to discuss
content with the intent of coordinating the material presented to the
students.
- Gary Owen, Director of the MD/PhD program, has been consulted about
his programs correlation with the proposed first year curriculum.
Integration between the two programs has been accomplished in the
tentative schedule to the satisfaction of the MD/PhD program.
- The Committee recommended that optional technology, library, stress
management and study workshops be incorporated into the common lunch
hour for the year 2000-01 curriculum and might spill over one-half hour
into the students free afternoons if necessary.
