- Town Meeting with Students 1/30/02. Approximately 20
students, representing all four classes, met with the Dean and members
of the Deans staff and faculty to discuss the students experiences in
medical school. A summary of the students comments was distributed to
the Committee. Some general themes were discussed such as a general
disconnect between PoM-1 and PoM-2 and the apparent decrease in patient
contact in second year.
- Suturing Course. A request from Curtis Tribble to include a
two week course in suturing in PoM-2 was distributed. In order to add
this to Pom-2, an adjustment in time allocation would probably be
necessary. The Committee will request a syllabus of the course before
commenting on this proposal.
Other general skills, such as venipuncture, which are used in all
clerkships should be considered. Possible incorporation of clinical
skills into anatomy, e.g. insertion of endotracheal tube will be
considered. The need for training in clinical documentation
skills was also noted.
- 1st Year Spring Schedule 2002-03. The Principles of Medicine
subcommittee working on the spring 1st year schedule is experiencing
difficulties corrdinating classes with the MSTP schedule. There are
available hours on the schedule that if used will necessitate overlap
with the MSTP student schedule. While not optimal, this may be
necessary to benefit the majority of the students.
