- The meeting was called to order at 5:05 PM. in the Pediarics Conference Room
Information regarding grade distribution in the medicine clerkships at a number of schools that used a "Pass/High Pass/Honors" system was distributed and briefly discussed. This information was provided by Dr. Rein, and originated from the CDIM group. It was noted that the distribution of grades in these 3 categories varied widely.
The "mock site visit" is scheduled to take place September 25 and 26, and clerkship directors should have received their invitations and schedules.
Dr. Short gave an excellent presentation to the committee about issues related to "ED-30", which defines requirements for formative and summative evaluations, and also lists several terms and issues related to grading with which course directors and clerkship directors should be familiar. The presentation included discussions of formative and summative assessment, criterion-referenced and norm-referenced assessment, and reliability and validity of assessments and assessment tools.
John Jackson mentioned that a new version of the OASIS program was due to be installed later in the week. This version will improve access to faculty evaluations, and will have a better interface. The committee discussed weighting of evaluations using this new system, as well as access to evaluations by individual faculty and/or the overall "summative" assessment.
Dr. Keeley mentioned that the Selectives will also be scheduled via OASIS, and will be "pass/fail".
The semiannual joint clerkship meeting will be held in Salem on October 25. Details of the schedule will be sent out shortly.
- The meeting adjourned at 6 PM.
