CENTRIC Officials meet with Charlottesville Fire Chief Charles Werner
In late October, CENTRIC officials from Sheffield Hallam University met with Charlottesville Fire Chief Charles Werner
Chief Werner, who has been nationally recognized for his commitment to coordination of information technology for first responders nation-wide, met with officials from Sheffield Hallam University's CENTRIC, located within the United Kingdom. In addition to his numerous state advisory positions, Chief Werner also serves on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) SAFECOM Executive Committee after having served as chair of SAFECOM for two years. In his shared vision of building a nationwide public safety wireless broadband network, Chief Werner also serves on the First Responders Network Authority (FirstNet) Public Safety Advisory Committee. Chief Werner serves as the vice-chair of the National Information Sharing Consortium (NISC). The NISC is also partnering with DHS and the White House on the development of an Incident Management Information Sharing Strategy. In addition, Chief Werner continues to serve on the DHS Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) Advisory Committee. As the Secretary of the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS, current committee chair for the Virginia Fire Chiefs Homeland Security Committee and recent president of the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association in 2010, Chief Werner also serves on the International Association of Fire Chiefs Technology Council. Chief Werner was instrumental in the creation of the Tech Council and served as its first chair. Acknowledged as a great communicator within the national fire community, Chief Werner has long been recognized for his leadership, as evidenced by the national recognition that he has received.
