Message from the Director
Welcome to the Pfizer Initiative in International Health (PIIH) website. I am delighted to have you consider the educational opportunities made available by the University of Virginia and the Pfizer Foundation, a partnership which strives to ensure the highest-quality healthcare for those most in need. This site is designed to help you learn more about the Initiative, its goals and how you can become more engaged in improving global health.
PIIH is dedicated to supporting work to resolve disease and improve health conditions around the globe. These conditions include malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, which infects five million new people every year. Most of the victims of these diseases live in the poorest countries of the world. The Pfizer Initiative is dedicated to helping stop the spread of disease in these communities.
We work to achieve this goal by fostering the exchange of UVa students, residents, fellows and faculty with peers from institutions in resource-limited settings to conduct multidisciplinary research of infectious diseases. We welcome your participation in this vital work.
