For Health Professionals
The Blue Ridge Poison Center is part of the University of Virginia's Department of Emergency Medicine and the Division of Medical Toxicology.
Each
year, over 4,000 medical residents and students of nursing, medicine,
and pharmacy, as well as health care professionals working in Virginia,
are taught by one of our boarded medical toxicologists. Our
accredited
Medical Toxicology Fellowship program has enrolled 8 physicians
since 2002, producing 7 boarded medical toxicologists to
date.
Our faculty are frequently invited to speak at hospitals, conferences, EMS provider training sessions, and more. Some recent topics include Snake Envenomations, Smoke Inhalation, Herbal Toxicity, Criminal Poisoning, Toxin-induced Seizures, and Emerging Trends in Substance Abuse. Other topics are available on request.
