   The Transplant Surgery division and the Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center at the University of Virginia are dedicated to fostering a community of cutting-edge research that advances the field of transplantation and allows our physicians to deliver the best possible care. Our mission is to advance patient care and the standard for clinical excellence in transplantation at the University of Virginia and worldwide by becoming a leader in innovative and high-impact research discoveries and collaborations.


   Research in the Transplant Division includes two research laboratories dedicated to research in solid organ and cellular transplantation. Each lab currently has a diverse number of ongoing basic sciences and translational projects. In addition, the Transplant Clinical Research Office facilitates state-of-the-art investigator-initiated studies and cutting-edge clinical trials in kidney, liver, and islet cell transplantation.
