Clinical Interests
Dr. Showalter provides radiation treatment for patients with genitourinary, gynecologic, and pediatric cancers, melanoma and sarcoma. His practice involves advanced external beam radiation therapy techniques, such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guide radiation therapy, image-guided brachytherapy, prostate seed implants, and stereotactic body radiation therapy.
Research Interests
As a clinical researcher, Dr. Showalter is focused on improving outcomes for patients with high-risk prostate cancer, developing more effective and convenient radiation therapy schedules, and evaluating advanced technologies for brachytherapy and external beam radiation therapy.
Dr. Showalter’s research has resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national meetings, and he is the recipient of a Young Investigator Award from the Prostate Cancer Foundation to support his career development as a prostate cancer researcher. He was a faculty member at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia prior to his start at UVA in August 2012.
He is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and lives in Charlottesville with his wife and three children.
