Medical Physics Support
MissionThe Mission of the Division of Diagnostic Medical Physics is to assure the safe and effective delivery of radiation to achieve a diagnostic or therapeutic result as prescribed in patient care. The Medical Physics Division performs, educates, or supervises the pertinent procedures necessary to achieve this objective. This objective is met at a minimum through the performance testing and monitoring of radiation producing equipment for adherence to applicable state and federal regulations. ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities of the diagnostic medical physicist:
Human Investigations Involving Radiation (HIRE) CommitteeUse of ionizing radiation in human research in any manner that does not directly benefit the patient/subject (i.e. beyond standard of care) must be approved by the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC), specifically the Human Investigations Involving Radiation Exposure (HIRE) subcommittee. The HIRE committee is made up of medical physicists, health physicists, and practicing physicians. For more information on HIRE, contact Allen Goode, Ph.D. > |
