Ondansetron for the Treatment of Heavy Drinking Among Emerging Adults- #13610
UVA C.A.R.E. seeks men and women 18 to 25 years of age who drink a lot at least one day per week for a clinical trial to see if a research medication (ondansetron) helps reduce the cravings for alcohol.
Participants will attend six visits over nine weeks and two follow-up visits. Study-related medications or placebo, physical exam and study-related tests are provided at no cost. Compensation for the completed study is $260.
The initial screening for this study is done over the telephone and takes about 10-15 minutes. If there is nothing found from the telephone pre-screen that would make someone ineligible to participate, they would then come into the clinic for a more thorough in-clinic screen which lasts around four hours. Principal Investigator: Bankole Johnson, M.D.
