Combining Medications Treatment for Alcohol Dependence- #11599

The Combining Medications study is 13 week clinical trial using a combination of two medications (ondansetron and topiramate) or a placebo. During the 13 weeks participants come to the clinic once a week. At these weekly visits participants receive the study medication, have a brief physical exam, and then participate in cognitive behavioral therapy. These weekly visits take roughly  2 hours each.

After the 13 week clinical trial participants come to the clinic once a month for the following 3 months for a brief post-study follow up visit. Compensation for the completed study is up to $280.

Screening for participation in this study is initially done over the telephone and takes 10-15 minutes. If there is nothing found from the telephone pre-screen that would make someone ineligible to participate they then come into the clinic for a more thorough in clinic screen which last 4-6 hours. Principal Investigator: Bankole Johnson, M.D.
