Military Concert Will Mark Pearl Harbor Day at U.Va.
December 1, 2009 — The 68th anniversary of the attack on Pearl
Harbor will be observed Monday with a military concert on the north
plaza of the Rotunda at the University of Virginia.
The concert, which is to start at 6 p.m., will feature the Pipe and
Drum Corps from Virginia Military Institute and the Fife and Drum Corps
from the U.S. Army Military District of Washington. The performance
will last about 30 minutes.
The U.Va.-based Critical Incident Analysis Group is hosting the
concert. Located within the School of Medicine, the group is an
international, interdisciplinary and interprofessional group of
scholars and practitioners who work to understand the impact of
critical incidents on people, communities and social structures.
"In our country's history, there have been only a few events that have
been so galvanizing that the date alone is symbolic," Dr. Gregory
Saathoff, executive director, said. "Although Sept. 11, 2001, is our
most recent example, Dec. 7, 1941, was another such date that served as
both a trauma and a challenge."
The event, he said, emphasizes the role that citizens, communities,
governments and private sector organizations perform in building a more
resilient nation. Additionally, it will express appreciation for those
who have served in uniform.
In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Newcomb Hall
Ballroom at 6:10 p.m. The public will be admitted starting at 6:05
p.m.
