The Salem VAMC is a large tertiary care referral center for psychiatry within the VA. Students will rotate on a 120-bed inpatient psychiatry service, as well as through our extensive ambulatory care programs serving approximately 45,000 visits per year. Each of these services is staffed by University of Virginia faculty who will closely supervise each student in the inpatient and outpatient management of neurobehavioral disorders.

 

Directions to VAMC Residency Program Office from Charlottesville:

64 to 81 South
Take Exit 141 (First Salem Exit)
Take Route 419 South
At 5th Stoplight Turn Left onto Roanoke Boulevard (At GE Plant)

Go approximately ½ mile and take second entrance to VA at traffic light (turn right). Make immediate left turn and Building 11 is located to the right. Park in Lot I (this lot is actually between buildings 10 and 9 and you will have to walk a little bit to get back to building 11). Enter building 11 and go midway down the hallway until you see the elevator on your right. Take the elevator to the first floor. Turn right upon exiting the elevator, then right down the hall. The first door on your left will be Conference Room 113, where you will meet for orientation.   

Orientation: All rotation groups report at 7:00 AM on the first rotation day to Building 11, First Floor, Conference Room 113.

 Housing and Meals:

Provided by the Medical Center . Students may move into quarters on the day before orientation by notifying the Administrative Coordinator one week prior to orientation. Keys will be left for these students at the Admisssions Desk in the Emergency Room in Building 2. After picking up keys, students should park in Lot T or in front of Building 77. Student housing is located in Building 77, Second Floor (students will need their keys to access the second floor). Students reporting on the first day of rotation will receive their keys during orientation. Students completing a rotation must not reside in quarters beyond the day following the end of the rotation without special permission.

Not allowed under any circumstances!
