Program Strengths
Why Choose a UVA PM&R Residency?
The University of Virginia Department of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation offers a unique Residency Program within the UVA
Musculoskeletal Center. This Center offers related musculoskeletal
services in one building, enabling easier access to these services
and enhancing communication and collaboration.

Under One Roof:

This program brings together a variety of related specialties for the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal disease and disorders. This provides an academic and clinical environment that is conducive to teamwork, as well as a creative and dynamic flow of ideas and solutions between specialists. The Center is staffed by over 25 physicians and surgeons working with a dedicated staff of nurses, therapists, social workers and technicians to provide surgical and non-surgical approaches to injury and disease management, focused on returning the individual to an optimal level of activity. Through a joint venture with HealthSouth Corporation, a broad array of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services are provided.

In a Beautiful Natural Setting:
|
Charlottesville, Virginia, (population 45,049), may be a little more peaceful and a little more relaxed than a major city, but residents agree - it has just enough of everything. There are coffeeshops and cafes, plenty of parks for picnics, and beautiful countryside and mountain views in every direction.
Strong Programs:
The UVa PM&R Residency Program is strong in many ways as it offers robust learning environments for sports medicine, outpatient musculoskeletal, inpatient, and EMG, among others. It also provides a close relationship with the UVa Pain Management Center located next to the PM&R outpatient clinic. Our residency program also ensures that each PGY4 will have one 3-month rotation in which to pursue his or her own research. This can include performing research studies or preparing articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
