PM&R Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a Chinese medical practice, about 2,500 years old, in which needles are inserted at predetermined points around the body. Often used as a way of promoting health as well as fighting disease, the goal is to bring about a change in the medical condition or a change in the body itself. Many individuals with persistent pain find that treatment options are often limited, particularly if they cannot tolerate analgesics, such as aspirin, or other medications to relieve the pain. In many of these situations, acupuncture may be a reasonable alternative. Acupuncture, in fact, is particularly useful in decreasing pain levels to the point where the patient can participate in a physical therapy or exercise program, and return to a more active lifestyle. Acupuncture is typically used to treat a number of moderate to severe pain conditions, including: AcuIllus.jpg

Commonly Asked Questions about Acupuncture:

While the needle insertion is associated with a pinch, the procedure itself is not considered painful. In fact, many patients fall asleep during their treatment.

Impossible - the needles are sterile, disposable and used only once.

How long does a treatment take?
The actual treatment time is approximately 20 minutes. This can vary depending upon the condition being treated.

Is Acupuncture covered by insurance?
