McMurry, Wages Join DPHS Faculty

The Department of Public Health Sciences is pleased to welcome Timothy McMurry, PhD, and Nolan Wages, PhD, to its faculty.

Dr. McMurry comes to us from the DePaul University Department of Mathematical Sciences, where he served as an assistant professor since 2004. Dr. McMurry completed his doctoral studies in mathematics and statistics at the University of California, San Diego. He has special expertise in nonparametric regression methods and multivariate statistics. Dr. McMurry has extensive experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in statistics covering a broad collection of topics in applied research methods, including experimental design, survey sampling, and regression methods, along with courses addressing mathematical statistics and stochastic processes. Dr. McMurry will be contributing his extensive skill set and experience to the overall research effort, to the development of new courses and degree programs, and to the enhancement and teaching of existing statistics and research courses available from the Department of Public Health Sciences.

Dr. Wages comes to us from the Hampden-Sydney College Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, where he served as an assistant professor since 2009.  Dr. Wages has a PhD in Statistics from the University of Virginia with research expertise in early stage cancer clinical trials.    He was the recipient of the Society for Clinical Trials Student Scholarship in 2009, and his joint work has been published in Biometrics and Clinical Trials. Dr. Wages has experience teaching courses in statistical methods, calculus, and statistical analysis.  In his new position, Dr. Wages will continue to develop designs for dose-finding trials for combination therapies, and his collaborative work will focus primarily on clinical and translational research in the UVA Cancer Center.

Welcome, Tim and Nolan!
