Expertise:
Outcome studies in public health practice, particularly on mental and sexual health topics and chronic disease detection and management.
Research Interests:
Health disparities and behavior change in multi-cultural populations. Community mental health and associated substance abuse and mental illness, decision-making related to health behavior change in chronic disease prevention and management. Effectiveness of health care service delivery.
Teaching Responsibilities:
- PHS 6630/5630: Healthy Appalachia. This course examines the history, culture and health of South/Central Appalachia, the impact of geographic health disparities and community-based opportunities for the transformation of public health. Co-Instructor: David C. Gordon, Director of the Office of Telemedicine & Rural Network Development.
- PHS: 7830: Grant Writing and Presentation Skills. This course is designed to provide an overview of grant writing with practical “how to” exercises to prepare the student to become successful in applying to public health-related grants from public and private funders.
