Pediatric Chief Residents
Hi everyone! I can't say enough good things about being a resident at UVA or about Charlottesville. Although I'm a long way from north Alabama, where I grew up, I know I've found my home away from home. The attendings here are a great resource, and I feel like I have learned so much from them during my time here. It's great to know I can approach them with questions about patient care, future careers, or anything, really. I know that I will receive honest answers from people who are excited about their jobs and who love to teach.
The other residents here are like my second family. We have a lot of fun both at work and during our off time. I have loved living in Charlottesville; there are plenty of things to do. There are always opportunities to go to concerts, wineries, or hiking, or to just share a good meal with friends. I like to play soccer and have joined one of the adult leagues with a couple of other residents. It's been a great way to spend time together outside of work. I also love to travel and am looking forward to planning an international rotation with some of my fellow residents. All in all, choosing to do residency at UVA was a great decision. I hope you love it as much as I do!
Welcome! Why, you ask, is someone from New Mexico, raised on green chile and dry dirt, in the humid green jungle of VA? Well, it is not just that I was looking for a better place to grow a garden, it is because I thought UVA Pediatrics was big enough to see many interesting cases, but small enough that it felt like a supportive community − collegial in the fullest sense of the word.
Personally, I am interested in international, public, and community health, though I think there is a wide range of interest within the professors and residents here. There are many opportunities to participate in research, community, and other projects outside of the core clinical duties. Though, as many say, it is the people that make working here great. I am honored to stay on a year as one of the two chief residents. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to try to answer them. All the best.
