KCRC Inpatient Rotation
Students scheduled for the KCRC will report to the nurses' station at the KCRC for rounds that begin promptly at 7:30 AM. Rounds are followed by a tour and orientation for the KCRC rotation.
KCRC patient care is comparable with that on the UVA ward, with
special rules regarding on-service notes, presentations, and new
patient write-ups. Patients will be assigned to students on a rotating
basis by the KCRC Resident. The schedule covering admissions,
conferences, various teaching rounds, and staff meetings regarding
patients will be distributed at the beginning of the rotation. There is
no night or weekend call at the KCRC, but there is often evening and
random weekend work. Every Tuesday, students will attend the Argument
Rounds from 1PM to 2PM in the Pediatric Conference Room (3rd Floor, Old
Medical School, Room 3906).
Parking for students is available in the parking lot at the KCRC.
Be sure to park in the Upper Decks, not patient parking in the
lower decks (there are marked signs).
We have acquired "hangtags" to facilitate return to the UVA Hospital area for conferences. You will pick up a parking hangtag from Carole Abel at the front desk of the KCRC on your first day. This pass is for parking at the 11th Street Parking structure at UVA for the noon lectures and assigned workshops.
The hangtags are to be checked back in on the last day of the KCRC inpatient rotation to Carole Abel. Should the tag become lost or damaged, please contact the Peds Education office as soon as possible. If the tag is not returned, you will receive an incomplete for the course until it is returned.
