Fairfax INOVA Hospital

Rotation Information

Students scheduled for the Pediatric Clerkship at Fairfax Hospital for Children work with Dr. Noel Mensah-Bonsu and the staff. The coordinator Jacki Ferry will be contacting you with check-in information.

Check-In for Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children, 3300 Gallows Road, Falls Church, Virginia 22042

Once you arrive on the IFH/IFHC/IHVI campus, please park in the Blue Parking Garage, located near the Blue Entrance, Womens and Childrens. Please park in Blue Visitor parking for first day only (look for signs for “Blue Entrance”). Please walk diagonally across the street to the Claude Moore Building, go one flight up, and report to Kelsey Nieves, Academic Registrar. Kelsey will orient you to the hospital campus and obtain for you a hospital photo ID badge. (Please do not attempt to go anywhere else on the campus until you have your photo ID badge.) All students must report to the Claude Moore Building first, do not report to the Department of Pediatrics. Please bring $10 cash with you; $5 for the visitor parking lot and $5 for your photo ID badge.

Jacki Ferry, Pediatrics Academic Coordinator, will give you a brief orientation to Pediatrics Department, orientation materials, containing a student hospital pager, and other necessities for your pediatrics rotation.

If you choose to stay in the shared townhome, Jacki will provide a key, directions, and instructions. Please be aware the townhome is a shared student facility, it sleeps five — in the event a fellow is scheduled simultaneously at the townhome with your rotation —the fellow will have master bedroom priority, also the basement bedroom is a shared bedroom for two; same gender only. Please also be aware any visitors and entertainment of any type on townhome property is strictly prohibited. You are required to provide all personal items such as sheets, blankets, pillows, soap, paper towels, food, etc. To ease concerns of privacy and safety; there are locks on bedroom doors, but of course, please use your best judgment at all times; keep valuables out of sight, lock doors including deadbolt, etc. The shared townhome sleeps has only three parking permits available; however there is plenty of street parking. You must use your best judgment for safety and security at all times.

The Chief Resident of Pediatrics will orient you to the department. Rotation goals and objectives will be described to you in full by the Clerkship Director, Dr. Freedy, or Associate Clerkship Director, Dr. Bajaj, on the first or second day of your orientation, depending on your morning or afternoon arrival time.

Please bring with you the “Harriet Lane Handbook”. This is an excellent and practical resource for physicians who work with pediatric patients, and should be available in Charlottesville at the Student Book Store on the Corner, the bookstore in the parking garage (across from Primary Care Center here) or from one of any online sites, such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

We look forward to your arrival.  If you have any questions, please direct them to Jacki Ferry at 703-776-6545.
