Stephen Borowitz, MDOur division provides services for children with intestinal, liver, and nutritional disorders including but not limited to:

We regularly perform upper and lower endoscopic procedures including gastrostomy placement and polypectomy. The UVA Children's Hospital is the only center in Virginia regularly performing liver transplants in children.

The Division operates within an interdisciplinary team setting at the new Battle Building.

Current Research Projects are examining:

  • Causes and treatment of childhood constipation and encopresis (involuntary fecal soiling)
  • Use of the Internet in managing encopresis
  • Epidemiology and etiology of inflammatory bowel diseases in children
  • Use of information systems and information technology to promote clinical care, patient safety, and professional and consumer education
