Patrick C. Alguire, Ed: Internal Medicine Essentials: A Companion to MKSAP for Students (2011). This short textbook was recently published by the American College of Physicians and the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine. It contains brief, evidence-based discussions of common problems and approaches in Internal Medicine. It therefore provides rapid updates on issues raised on rounds and is excellent preparation for the subject examination. The issues covered in the book represent the curriculum for the Clerkship. You cannot hope to see all relevant diseases on our 8-week clerkship, and this book will provide you with exposure to some of the other problems, especially those associated with subspecialty medicine. It is available at a cost of $47-55. (Cheaper if you are a student member)
For the AIM rotation we recommend: Noble, Textbook of Primary Care Medicine, 3rd. Ed., 2001, Mosby, Inc. This is available online via the UVA Health Sciences Library.
