Resident Testimonial - Dr. Shah
There has always been a large emphasis on the education of the housestaff here at UVA and it definitely shows now that I’m a PGY-3. My classmates and I are well-trained and are able to apply evidence-based management to a myriad of medical conditions. The culture here at UVA gives most of the autonomy to the housestaff when it comes to patient care, with just the right amount of support from fellows and attendings. Every attending that I have worked with is also enthusiastic to teach and never hesitates to offer their support, even at 2 AM. I’ve also received a lot of support from the faculty for research projects and with their help I was able to create my own IRB project and now I’ll be presenting at a national conference in October. Throw in global health opportunities, community service projects and an outstanding fellowship match list and you’ll see what makes this place so great!
But we don’t only work hard here at UVA, we also play hard. Cookouts, kickball and flag football leagues, floating down the James River, hikes in the Shenandoah Valley, polo matches at King’s Family Vineyard, Fridays after Five on the Downtown Mall and sunsets at Carter Mountain are just a few of the things that happen here in Charlottesville. My personal favorite is our team curling league (ask me about it!). UVA provides the opportunity and time to enjoy your personal life and in the process, you get to become best friends with your fellow classmates. I invite you to check out UVA for yourself – you won’t regret it!"
