Resident Testimonial - Dr. McConnell

"Having gone here for medical school, I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting into by doing my residency at UVA — impressive and fun residents, amazing faculty who are great to work with and very interested in teaching, and a city with tons to offer. The work environment is one of cooperation, from everyone in Internal Medicine to all of the other services and staff. The residents are also truly doctors here; we get to make our own decisions about the way we take care of our patients and always have support from fellows and attendings when we need it. In short, UVA is a great place to learn.

What I've learned since starting here is that the residency program tries hard to accommodate everyone's needs, from time off to financial concerns and career development. I can't say enough about how friendly and helpful everyone has been to us. I also know that I'll be well-covered should I ever have a personal or family emergency, and that help is only a phone call away.

Charlottesville is a great town for a resident; it's affordable but with lots of activities to keep you busy. There are a ton of great restaurants, frequent big-name concerts (as well as plenty of local talent), and easy access to hiking, biking, rafting, and basically any outdoor activity you can think of. I'm thrilled to be here for another three years!"
