[Q4 day call cycle]

  • Team admits new patients from 07:00 to 19:00

  • Non-call teams sign-out to the on-call team at 17:00

  • On-call team remains in-house for admissions & cross-cover until 20:00 (when NF team arrives)

  • Team admits new patients from 19:00 to 07:00

  • Team cross-covers on entire service overnight

  • Resident presents hold-overs to the day team at 07:00

  • NF team leaves by 08:00-08:30 every day

  • Heme/Onc resident will have 2 interns (heme/onc and Digestive Health night float intern) and together will admit to both services overnight


 
Digestive Health Service

[Q3 day call cycle]
  • Team admits new patients from 07:00 to 19:00

  • Non-call teams sign-out to the on-call team at 17:00

  • On-call team remains in-house for admissions & cross-cover until 20:00 (when NF team arrives)

  • Heme/onc resident and Digestive Health intern make up Night Float team

  • Team admits new patients from 19:00 to 07:00

  • Team cross-covers on entire service overnight

  • Intern/resident presents holdovers to the day team at 09:00 rounds

  • NF team leaves by 10:00

 
  Acute Cardiology Service

[Q4 day call cycle - resident overnight]
  • Team admits from 07:00 to 07:00

  • Non-call teams sign-out to the on-call team at 17:00

  • Intern leaves by 22:00

  • On-call resident remains in-house for total team cap of 10 new admissions in a 24 hour period

  • Overnight cross coverage provided by CCU resident for all non-call team patients

  • Post call resident and intern round with general cardiology at 07:00 and heart failure at 07:30. Any patients that have not been discussed will occur at 09:00 after morning report. Resident leaves by 10:00 with intern remaining to cover team with help of fellow/other residents on service

Coronary Care Unit

[Q2 day call cycle]
  • Team admits new patients from 07:00 to 21:00

  • Non-call team sign-out to the on-call team as soon as work completed (approximately 12:00)

  • On-call team remains in-house for admissions & cross-cover until 21:00 (when NF team arrives)


  • No overnight call

  • Friday/Saturday night “CCU Night Float” is covered by an off-service resident/resident pair that is currently on an outpatient/elective block

  • Night float team admits from 20:00 to 07:00 and rounds on the “day off” team’s patients on each weekend day

  • Night float team leaves by 10:00

  • Night float resident/intern team admit 21:00 to 07:00

  • Night float team attend morning rounds and manages all patients they admit i.e. they carry their own team even when on nights.

  • Night float intern and resident leave by 11:00

 Medical Intensive Care Unit

[Q4 day overnight call cycle]
  • Team admits new patients from 07:00 to 20:00

  • Non-call team sign-out to the on-call team at 17:00

  • On-call resident remains in-house to cross-cover overnight

  • On-call intern leaves by 22:00

  • Post-call intern returns to hospital in the morning, rounds with the team and signs out to NP. He/She will remain until notes are completed and then goes home (usually 13:00)

  • Post-call resident leaves by 10:00

Same as weekdays
  • Night float intern/resident team admit new patients 20:00-07:00

  • Night float intern is responsible for cross cover with the help of the overnight call resident

  • Night float team present overnight admissions on morning rounds

  • Night float team leave by 10:00

  • Each team does 5 days of night float at a time
