Clinical Training

Clinical Training

Inpatient Training:

The inpatient clinical training experience includes opportunities to observe and manage adult and adolescent patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases on the University of Virginia Infectious Diseases Inpatient Consultation Service.  Prior to participating in the care of hospitalized patients, trainees complete a one-month intensive course within The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory.

Outpatient Training

The outpatient clinical training experience involves opportunities for trainees to observe and manage adult and adolescent patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases in several different ambulatory clinics staffed by faculty members from the Division of Infectious Diseases. Completion of these rotations results in a well-rounded experience for trainees, ensuring their competence for the longitudinal care of patients with a broad range of clinical infectious diseases seen in the outpatient setting.

Outpatient Clinics:

The medical clinical fellowship in Infectious Diseases provides a number of outpatient clinics for the trainee to experience.
