About the Hospitalist Service
The UVA Hospital Medicine Program was launched in July 2006. There are currently 10 board-certified Internal Medicine Hospitalists on staff providing care in the Medical Center and the Transitional Care Hospital.
The Hospitalists admit and manage medically complex patients at both facilities, provide medical consultation to surgical patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, and are heavily involved in resident and student education.
We also fill a number of key administrative functions for the Medical Center including responding to requests for patient transfer from outlying hospitals, committee work, and are actively engaged in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
The program is expected to substantially increase in size over the coming year to take on additional duties and patient volumes.
