Endoscopy Clinic

Endoscopy Clinic

Our team of nationally and internationally recognized gastroenterologists, hepatologists, and surgeons performs a full range of procedures to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and hepatobiliary disorders. Our Endoscopy Unit, which is a state-of-the-art facility within the Digestive Health Center, is equipped with the latest technology and is staffed by specialists, nurses, and technicians who are dedicated to caring for patients during and after procedures.

General endoscopic services include upper GI endoscopy (EGD), push enteroscopy, and colonoscopy. Our hepatologists also routinely perform ultrasound-guided percutaneous liver biopsy and therapeutic large volume paracentesis.

We offer a full array of small bowel diagnostics and therapeutics. Wireless capsule endoscopy is available to assist in the diagnosis of small bowel disorders, such as obscure GI bleeding. We also perform single-balloon enteroscopy to treat diseases of the deep small bowel that are beyond the reach of push enteroscopy.

The UVA Digestive Health Center is a leader in interventional endoscopy. We routinely perform advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic ultrasound (including fine-needle-aspiration and celiac plexus block) and ERCP for the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and pancreatico-biliary disorders. Our endoscopy platforms enable high-definition visualization of the gastrointestinal mucosa, and we have the capability to perform advanced optical imaging, including narrow-band imaging and confocal endomicroscopy to aid in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal and pancreatico-biliary lesions. Other procedures offered by our team of interventional endoscopists include endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for polyps and lesions in the GI tract.

Adjunctive endoscopic therapies performed by our physicians include argon plasma coagulation, choledochoscopy, holmium YAG-laser lithotripsy, photodynamic therapy for cholangiocarcinoma, radiofrequency ablation of Barrett's esophagus, and palliative stenting of the esophagus, duodenum, and colon.
