Patrick Turner, MD
Hello! My name is Patrick Turner, and I am part of the UVA Family Medicine Class of 2015. I am a purebred Virginian, spending high school, college, medical school, and now residency in the Commonwealth. I studied Chemistry at James Madison University and attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia at VCU. I love Virginia for everything it has to offer; wonderful, distinct seasons, the Blue Ridge Mountains and their hiking, lake and river life, the beach and Eastern Shore, beautiful wine country, and an amazing college town in Charlottesville. I have been here almost a year and am only beginning to tap all that it has to offer. In my spare time I love spending time I with my friends, co-residents, and wife, Lauren, who is a nurse at UVA. A great weekend for me is an early eighteen holes of golf, poolside relaxation, followed by some grilling with friends, and topped off with an evening of UVA's great sporting programs (basketball, baseball, lacrosse).
When searching for a career in medicine, I felt that Family Medicine was the right choice because it was the best use of my personal and professional strengths - namely, the patient encounter. As a a profession, family medicine is keenly interested in the public health realm, addressing the needs of an evolving health care system and formulating care models for the future. I thoroughly enjoy preventive medicine, especially screening measures, from the primary literature to process refinement.
UVA was able to provide me with a very active and invested faculty team, absolutely dedicated towards our professional development, mental and physical well being, and a positive experience in the hospital. I feel very confident that I will be a thriving, curious, and compassionate practitioner who makes an effort to use the wealth of medical knowledge available and tailor it specifically to the patient in the room.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about our residency program. I look forward to hearing from you, and check us out!
