Nicholas Somerville, M.D.
I was born in San Francisco and grew up in the SF Bay Area. In college at the University of California Santa Cruz I studied biology and decided a little late in the game to pursue a career in medicine. From there I moved out to Boston for a year and finally landed in medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans. There I considered a few different specialties before deciding on Family Medicine. It is my hope to one day split my time between public health and clinical medicine, and FM was the perfect choice. I couples matched with my girlfriend (she is in Internal Medicine) and we interviewed at numerous programs on both coasts of the United States. I was drawn to UVA because of it's strong grounding in evidence based medicine and the dedicated faculty that make that possible. Of course, Charlottesville also met my qualifications of having great restaurants, great hiking, good music, and a real sense of community. My co-residents are awesome people and have quickly become close friends. And speaking of friends, I can't walk down a hospital hallway without seeing at least one from a different specialty- something that I value greatly in my training here at UVA.
Please feel free to email me if you have questions about our residency program.
