Amanda Loucks, MD
I went to UVA for undergrad where I majored in Spanish and Biology, then went closer to the beach at EVMS for med school. During the interview season, I knew I loved the Charlottesville area, but I wasn't sure if I wanted a big academic program. I knew that this was the place for me during my interview as the Family Medicine program was a smaller, close knit family within the big academic program and is well respected by the other specialities.
Intern year has long hours, but I am so happy I ended up here. Not only are the other family medicine residents great, I have made really good friends in the OB/Gyn and Internal Med departments. They make the long hours of intern year kinda fun!
When not working, there is so much fun to be had in Charlottesville. It is the perfect compromise for me and my husband, Deon. He likes the rural, small town feel, and I like lots of things to do and entertainment. There are always big name musicians coming to town, football games, dozens of vineyards, and lots of great restaurants. And there is as much hiking, camping, canoeing, white water rafting and other outdoors activities to fill your time off with.
If you have any questions, let me know! I would love to hear from you! Please feel free to email me about our residency program.
