I looked at university and community-based programs for residency. UVa stood out as a program that offers strong academic teaching from a faculty with diverse interests combined with attention to psychosocial aspects of family medicine. The residents in our program were supportive of each other in the hospital, but we also enjoyed hanging out outside of work. I am originally from North Carolina and went to UNC for undergrad. Charlottesville is beautiful and reminds me a lot of Chapel Hill - a small city feel without bad traffic. I was also looking for a city that was good for singles, with abundant activities close enough for easy access, and Charlottesville gave me that. The Lawn (UVa's main quad on undergrad campus) is a great place to hang out during free time - I got excited every time I saw it (it's my favorite place in Cville!). The area is great for outdoor recreation and going to football games was a lot of fun!
