I fell in love with Charlottesville and UVa during med school while visiting my Grandfather, who was ill and was sent over from Blacksburg, VA, for his care. The doctors were friendly, funny, and they graciously let me go on rounds and watch procedures with them. I am a beach-baby from Charleston, SC, and was looking for a community-based residency that was in close proximity to the ocean. Charlottesville was the furthest in-land that I interviewed but I found it to be similar to Charleston in that it's a scenic, artsty, and liberal city surrounded by rural areas.

The Charlottesville area is beautiful, with all four seasons and there are tons of outdoor activities. It's near the mountains and the Shenandoah Valley, with great hiking, biking, and running trails. The city is rich with history, beautiful architecture, vineyards, and live arts and music. Charlottesville is consistently ranked one of the top places to live in the US! UVa has an excellent reputation, and UVa family medicine has the best of both worlds with academic tertairy care that serves a diverse community of urban, rural, and international patients that come from all around for their care.

Above all, I met the most wonderful people during residency and this is what I loved most about being there, which goes right back to my very first impression of UVa. It is such a nuturing, respectful, smart, caring and fun place to flourish. It's been a blessing and a privilege to have been a family medicine resident at UVa.
