Although originally a Michigan native, I was first introduced to the majesty of the Blue Ridge Mountains as a resident in family medicine at the University of Virginia in 1981. I returned after three years to Michigan, where I went from full time private practice in St. Ignace, Michigan to part-time teaching in Grand Rapids, Michigan; to full time teaching in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and now, since 1994 back to Charlottesville. Along the way my family grew to six, including my daughter Allison (born August 1991) and our triplets, Andrew, Marnie, and Jacob (born February 1998).
My teaching passion is helping clinicians manage information and I have been privileged to work with great faculty here and elsewhere to develop a paradigm entitled Information Mastery. Our residency curriculum includes extensive teaching in Information Mastery, and our faculty development fellows become certified as Information Mastery instructors. In my free time I love to wander the mountain streams of Virginia with my fly rod, hoping to catch (and release) native brook trout.
