I was born and raised in Virginia. I spent most of my childhood
in Nelson County, Virginia. I completed a Bachelor of Science in
Nursing with a minor in religious studies at UVA in 2003. I later
completed a Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse
Practitioner (FNP) Certification at UVA in 2006. I am currently
enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program here at UVA. I plan
to graduate for the last time in May 2013. As a FNP, I have worked in
family practice and community health in California, New York and
Central Virginia. I joined the UVA family medicine team in March of
2012. I strive to provide affordable healthcare with a focus on early
detection and disease prevention. I particularly enjoy working with
immigrants and refugees. My research interests include Latino migrant
farmworker health, diabetes and cardiovascular screening, and cultural
awareness amongst healthcare providers.
I have been happily married for seven years to a talented chef, Ben. Our first child arrived in October 2012. When I am not working, studying, or spending time with family and friends, I am usually out on a run. Although running is my biggest hobby, I also enjoy hiking, camping, cycling, and traveling.
